Design Statement: With Medea we tried to avoid a revisionist feminist treatment. The Greeks viewed Medea as utterly loathsome. Our inspirations were found in anthropological and sociological observation. Our environment was designed with a Mediterranean flavor. In the heat people escape to the rooftops. In Medea’s case this rooftop is simultaneously a throne of power, refuge, a cage, and an escape. Medea is an outsider. There is a tectonic clash of cultures here as depicted in the distinct worlds of the floor patterning. All is revealed and all is obscured in the webs of interaction and deceit.
